About Us

GrassRoots Ministry (GRM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to dismantling rural poverty by unlocking the economic and innovative potential of youth. We believe in moving beyond aid to create self-reliant, youth-led economies. To achieve this, we employ the Sustainable Livelihoods Framework, a proven model that builds the five essential forms of capital—human, financial, social, physical, and natural—to create prosperity that lasts.

Our mission is to outwork extreme poverty by building a complete ecosystem that transforms rural youth from job-seekers into job-creators and community leaders. Through our integrated pillars of Skill, Opportunity, and Capital, we fuel a cycle of sustainable transformation.

Our Vision

We envision a Uganda where every rural youth has the agency, skills, and opportunity to build a thriving livelihood, steward their community’s resources, and drive a resilient, innovative local economy.

Our Story

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the world seemed to be crumbling around us, a spark of hope emerged. GRM was born. Founded by Grace Julius Ssembatya in 2020. Grace’s own experiences of struggle and resilience fueled his passion to create positive change. He saw firsthand the devastating impact of the pandemic on rural youth, who were losing their livelihoods, struggling with mental health, and feeling hopeless. Grace refused to stand idly by. He decided to take action, driven by a fierce determination to change the lives of hundreds of rural young people and help them reclaim their futures. This vision led to the founding of GRM, an organization dedicated to empowering rural youth through training, employment, and financial access, creating opportunities where none previously existed. Today, GRM continues to break down barriers, transforming lives and unlocking potential in rural communities across Uganda.

"True rural development isn't about pushing our youth to leave. It's about creating the opportunities that make them proud to stay and build a future on their own land."
