Olulimi lwange (My language) Project.


Project Description:
Olulimi Lwange, meaning “My Language” in Luganda, is a cultural preservation and promotion
project aimed at revitalizing Uganda’s rich cultural heritage. The project seeks to foster pride,
cultural competency, and literacy among Ugandans, particularly rural youth, through various art
forms.


Project Mission:
To promote pride, cultural competency, and literacy in Ugandan cultures, and to preserve and
revitalize cultural heritage through music, dance, spoken word, theatre, storytelling, and visual
arts.

Project Objectives:

1. Enhance cultural awareness and appreciation among Ugandans, particularly rural youth.

2. Preserve and document Uganda’s cultural heritage through various art forms.

3. Develop cultural competency and literacy skills among project participants.

4. Promote intergenerational transmission of cultural knowledge and practices.

5. Foster creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the cultural sector.

Project Activities:

Component 1: Cultural Research and Documentation

1. Conduct research on Uganda’s cultural heritage, focusing on endangered traditions.

2. Document cultural practices, stories, and histories through audio-visual recordings.

3. Develop a digital archive of Ugandan cultural heritage.

Component 2: Arts and Cultural Programming

1. Organize cultural festivals, concerts, and performances showcasing Ugandan art forms.

2. Conduct workshops, training sessions, and mentorship programs for artists.

3. Produce cultural educational materials (books, DVDs, etc.).

Component 3: Community Engagement and Outreach

1. Establish community cultural clubs and groups.

2. Conduct cultural sensitization and awareness campaigns.

3. Collaborate with schools to integrate cultural education into curricula.

Component 4: Capacity Building and Entrepreneurship

1. Provide training on cultural entrepreneurship and business skills.

2. Support artists in developing sustainable business models.

3. Establish a cultural marketplace for artists to showcase and sell their work.
